Michael Behe: the limits of evolution

In their latest issue, Books & Culture has an excellent review of Michael Behe’s new book, The Edge of Evolution: The Search for the Limits of Darwinism. Behe’s book seeks to clarify misunderstandings about Darwinism commonly held by both evolutionists and by anti-evolutionists. Three things are associated with evolution: (1) natural selection, (2) common descent, and (3) random mutation. Behe fully supports (1) and (2) and argues that evolution can account for these better than any other scientific theory, which immediately makes him an enemy of creationists. But Behe sees scientific and mathematical limits to (3), and thus strongly argues against the views of Richard Dawkins. I definitely recommend the review. While long, the author summarizes the material well.
