[T]he doctrine of the Trinity is not some sort of abstract, academic theory about God, a kind of mathematical game for professional theologians to play, rather it is the signature of the very identity of God. It tells us who God is in God’s eternal essence. It also grounds the place of Christ in our salvation, and it explains the place of the Holy Spirit in our ongoing experience of being church. It also has fundamental implications for a whole range of contemporary issues.2. Scholasticus: Henry of Ghent’s Doctrine of Analogy. Shane has posted his Master’s thesis online, and it looks superb. A thorough investigation of the doctrine of analogy through Aristotle, Avicenna, Thomas, and Henry of Ghent.
3. Loretta’s Basement: Mean Creek Review. Adam Steward has written a lengthy but wonderful review of the Oregon-based film, Mean Creek, which has become something of an indie hit. Adam is a Portland native, as I am, so it’s nice to see such a great film come out of the Northwest.
4. Levellers: Idolatrous Nationalism from SBC Publishing House. Finally, a story to cause revulsion and disgust: a series of Bibles published for “soldiers,” which include special features like “The Battle Hymn of the Republic,” “Onward Christian Soldiers,” the pledge of allegiance, and (best of all) quotes from President George W. Bush! Idolatry, indeed.
